Workshop 1: May Singing for the October Voice
2:00 - 3:30 PM
This clinic and master class focuses on the tools and practices important in keeping the active singer's voice healthy and youthful. It includes practical information for both the solo singer and the choral singer. Participants may choose to sing or simply observe. Those wishing to perform for the class should come prepared with 1 or 2 selections and sign up on the registration form. An accompanist is provided but music should be given in advance to the Great Waters office. (No limit to class size but a limit of 12 performers.)
Clinican: Thomas Jones
Thomas Jones, baritone; winner of the NATS national singing competition; semi-finalist Bel Canto Foundation & NY Oratorio Competition; appearances with opera companies, orchestras & choruses throughout the U.S., Europe & West Indies; voice faculty for 15 years at Harvard University.
Workshop 2: Meet The Conductors and Artists
4:00 - 5:00 PM
This session is offered as an opportunity for choral participants to interface with professional artists and conductors on a personal basis. The workshop will cover a broad range of topics focusing on important aspects of the choral and vocal art. Join us for this informal workshop and bring your questions and concerns for a sharing of knowledge.
Clinicians: Dr. Gerald R. Mack, Thomas Jones, Maria Ferrante & Andy Campbell.
Workshop 3: Singing in Style... with Substance!
7:30 - 9:00 PM
This master class will be geared to revealing a song's intent and context while adhering to sound vocal technique. The workshop will explore the ways to make a performance authentic and communicative, shed light on the poetry and, when appropriate, frame the song's character. Participants may choose to sing or simply observe. Those wishing to perform for the class should come prepared with at least 1 selection and sign up on the registration form. An accompanist is provided but music should be given in advance to the Great Waters office. (No limit to class size but a limit of 10 performers.)
Clinician: Maria Ferrante
Maria Ferrante, soprano; winner of the prestigious Mario Lanza Voice competition; appearances with major orchestras and recitals throughout the U.S., Vienna, Prague and the Virgin Islands; performer of numerous opera roles; "she is a true singing actress" writes Richard Dyer, music critic of the Boston Globe.
* Workshops are open to Festival Chorus participants and the general public.
